We are happy to present the last in our series of timelapses in Tokyo– ironically the first we shot and produced. This shot began as an experiment to capture both the bustling frenzy of life in Tokyo, as well as our experience as solitary observers– outsiders with only enough resources to let the foot traffic of the city wash over us. What emerged were a set of three profound and visually stunning shorts that do more than any other single shots we captured during Season 2 to communicate our experiences in Japan.

With finances reaching the critical disaster zone Matt must forgo his spot in the guesthouse and find a home on the streets of Tokyo to save money.

Okay. So, it has been a while. More than three weeks, to be precise, which is exactly two weeks longer than it should have been since this episode was released. A lot happened this month, from obvious hardware failures, to marauding ex-girlfriends, to rheumatoid arthritis, to hilariously weak immune systems, but the simple fact of the matter is that once upon a time none of this ever would have phased me.

In college I was known for my legen-(wait for it)-dary brute strength work ethic (which didn’t always result in creative successes, mind you), and through most of Season 1 I was operating on a moderated version of that same sleep:work ratio. Either I’m getting old, the full New England winter (my first in almost a decade) was too harsh, or I’m experiencing a mild burnout. Whatever the cause, I have only myself to blame.

So apologies all around: first and foremost to our viewers for making you wait so long to continue the story, but also to our crew who work so hard to capture this incredible footage on a daily basis. There are some positive changes coming to the JS0 production office in the near future, but in the meantime I’m just going to try to buckle down and make this show keep happening, one way or another.

We made a lot of good friends during our time in Vietnam, but one of the best and most unexpected was Thao Trang. Trang was in one of our general English classes, and asked us for weeks to go to her shows. It took us awhile, but by the time we finally made it we realized what we were missing. Trang is an incredibly beautiful and talented singer that really opened her life to us and showed us what Vietnam and Saigon were like for her. This video lets you hear about her life, singing, and friendship with Jet Set Zero in her own words.

And that’s all, folks. Jet Set Zero Season 1: Saigon is a wrap.

It’s been a bizarre, eye-opening experience from the beginning of the pre-season to this huge milestone for me. Considering that I had no idea what I was doing when I slapped Episode 1 together four months ago, the following 8 episodes fell in place with such a fluid blur that I hardly even remember assembling them.

Partly that could be the result of the bleary, coffee and beer filled all-nighters which have commonly constituted my Sunday night editing experience since September. This final episode was no exception: as I watched the sun rise through the dirty frosted glass of our mostly unheated guesthouse common room where I’d spent the past 14 hours, I knew that as Season 1 drew to a close something else had begun:

Season 2: Tokyo.
