While roaming the streets of Saigon, I saw a huge billboard showing soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo promoting motor oil.

What I had never noticed was the big advertisement above the entrance of Ben Thanh market: Frédéric Belaubre for Adidas. And please tell me, who is Frédéric Belaubre?
He is a FRENCH triathlete!

To be honest, I didn’t know him until I saw his face at the market. He is not exactly a superstar, compared to Cristiano Ronaldo. All the better for him! A French, relatively unknown athlete in one of the biggest markets of Saigon that’s very popular among tourists! I can’t get over it!

En flânant dans les rue de Ho Chi Minh Ville, j’ai vu un immense panneau publicitaire représentant Cristiano Ronaldo, l’actuelle vedette du football, faisant la promotion d’huile de moteur.

Ce que je n’avais jamais remarqué, c’est la gigantesque publicité au-dessus de l’entrée du marché Ben Thanh: Frédéric Belaubre pour Adidas. Et dites-moi, qui est donc Frédéric Belaubre?

Pour être honnête, je ne le connaissais pas avant d’avoir vu son visage au marché. Ce n’est pas exactement une superstar, comparé à Cristiano Ronaldo. Mais tant mieux pour lui! Un Français, relativement peu connu, dans l’un des plus grands marchés de Saigon largement fréquenté par les touristes! Je n’en reviens pas!

We live a few minutes away by foot from Ben Thanh Market, a tourist trap where you’ll find almost anything: flower arrangements, fish market, spices, jewelry, watches, clothes, souvenirs.

Nous habitons à quelques minutes à pied du marché Ben Thanh, un piège à touriste où l’on trouve quasiment tout: compositions florales, marché de poissons, épices, bijoux, montres, vêtements, souvenirs.

In the scorching heat of Ho Chi Minh City, along the banks of the Saigon river, we rehydrate ourselves. The cream-coloured ”jar” is a coconut filled with coconut juice.
