Taking the long way around by Jeremiah on October 16, 2010

I fought with a stranger and I met myself, I opened my mouth and I heard myself. It can get pretty lonely when you show yourself. I guess I could've made it easier on myself, but I could never follow.

“My friends from high school married their high school girlfriends, moved in to houses in the same zip codes where their parents lived, but I could never follow.” These lyrics describe my life perfectly. Destined to write my life story my own way, I’ve never been one to have an outline, and I definitely wasn’t born with an infrastructure. Truth be told I’m an unorganized mess. At this point in my life I’ve come to a fork in the road where I can either settle down or follow the obscure path of uncertainty. With the above being said, it is no secret that settling down isn’t in my blood. I’ve always been a dreamer, people would say “pull your head out of the clouds Jeremiah”. But, why would I ever pull my head out of the clouds when I can see the entire world from up here? I mean who ever decided that life came with a map: We graduate high school, we go to college, we find a career, we get married and settle down until it’s time to retire. I’m setting out on my own with no map and a heart full of wonder. I’m learning to marvel at the world and I am finding myself along the way. My life is a blank sheet of paper, and I’m using the world as my pencil.  Here’s to taking the long way around.

Congratulations Jeremiah…you are a citizen of the world. It has been a pleasure watching you grow over the course of the last seven weeks. You have a fire for exploration that is much greater than your town, your state, and your country. This world is for the taking. One day when it’s right for you, you will know when you want to change the pace. Stay true to all the moments, good and bad, easy and hard, because they are shaping you along the way. I have always said that, though I dug college, traveling these years has rivaled my four year degree. Home will always be there. You are currently obtaining a wealth of knowledge that most people in the world are too fearful to allow themselves to search for. You will forever be changed, forever be different, and you will definitely be more of Jeremiah. Love you, kid!

Thanks Evita, I’ve learned so much from you along the way. This journey is about the people I meet that help shape me. People that test me, people that inspire me, people that show me how to live. You have done all of the above. I’m thankful to have met you on this adventure, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love ya too.

As a big Jet Set Zero fan I just wanted to say this was a great post. Short and sweet with a nice message and a kick ass picture that fit the tone perfectly. I can’t imagine its easy to constantly by sharing your stories and decisions with strangers across the globe so know that you have fans that posts like this are an inspiring reminder to get my head IN the clouds and though the beaten trail may be easier its wandering off of it that changes lives.
