I’ll never forget my trip to China at age nine with my family for many reasons, one of the most prominent being how numerous adults in China asked to take a photograph of or with me. I’m not even blond, but many of them had never seen a Westerner in the flesh before and were fascinated. My parents thought it was adorable, and years later it’s still a little funny to think about how random people in China have pictures of the nine-year-old version of me.

i always disliked when people stared and said something that i couldn’t understand. i always assumed they were talking smack…SMACK.

…now i feel guilty about staring at people too.
