Our new friend Nguyet, who as mentioned before, works in the travel agency downstairs at our guest house, was invited on a tour of the Mekong Delta as a way to check it out so she could recomend it to her customers. We decided to tag along, well because it was a full day tour for $8 and you can’t really beat that. Little did we know how freakin’ rad this tour would end up being.
We were chartered a couple hours out of Saigon by bus, and immediately shuffled onto a boat right on the delta. The boat took us across to the other side of the delta, where a jungly paradise lived.

Boat #1 Accross the Delta
First stop on the tour was to try some local honey. Jen and I both stuck our fingers in a beehive (I hate bees, so this feat took some major balls on my part), and held a boa just because we couldn’t resist the opportunity to look badass in a photo.
Next stop lead us to trying some of the local fruits, most of which I still can’t pronounce or remember the names of, except for that weird one called “watermelon”. We were shuffled back on to the boat, given fresh coconuts with straws in them, and on our way to another portion of the delta. Next came the “rowboat” portion of the trip, where 4-5 of us were dumped in pretty much the scariest little rickety boat I’ve ever seen. Falling into the Mekong water was not on the list of “must do’s” as the water was the color of what I would call “shit brown”, so these boats were interesting to say the least.

We were then put on a horse drawn carriage (aka metal box pulled by pony) and taken to go see how coconut candy was made. It was pretty much the most delicious thing ever, I thought it couldn’t be topped. THEN, we get taken to lunch to have a phenomenal four course meal. That about sums up the day. Oh, did I mention this all cost us $8? Just sayin’….

Wow,
Every video you guys post of Vietnam makes it look more and more amazing. And you guys do indeed look badass with a boa constrictor in one of the great cliche tourist photos. What are the women doing at that table? I wanted to say gambling of some sort, but I fear being completely off the mark.
Hey Jesse,
Sorry to say a bit off the mark, yes, but I didn’t explain what that was so its my bad. The women are hand-wrapping coconut candies… Freshly sliced from the press.
